June Ereño Orbea

She obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Basque Country (Spain) (in 2015). She is an expert in protein engineering, biochemical, biophysical, and structural biology techniques (such as X-ray crystallography). Notable achievements include the "José Tormo 2014 Prize" and the "AUSE 2015/2016 award" for her doctoral research on the structural regulation of cystathionine beta synthase enzyme (CBS) (under the supervision of Dr. Martinez de la Cruz (CIC bioGUNE)).

During her postdoctoral research at The Sick Children Hospital (Canada) under the supervision of Dr. Julien, she characterized the structures of B-cell surface receptors (e.g. CD22 and CD19) and their binding to therapeutic Abs. Since 2019, as an Ikerbasque Research Fellow in Prof. Jiménez-Barbero's lab at CIC bioGUNE, she leads independent research, focusing on deciphering the mechanisms of glycans and glycan binding receptors, with a particular emphasis on Siglecs, in immune response regulation.
