Serge Perez
Serge Perez was born in Perigueux, France; he graduated in crystallography from the University of Bordeaux (Doctor in Physics) and the University of Grenoble (Doctorate es Sciences, DSc 1977). He had international exposure throughout several laboratories (Institute of Molecular Biology, University of Oregon, Eugene, U.S.A.; Department of Chemistry at the University of Montreal, Canada. (CERMAV) Centre de Recherches sur les Macromolecules Végétales, CNRS, Grenoble, France ; Eastman Kodak, Rochester, NY, USA. Institut de la Recherche Agronomique, Nantes, France; the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Grenoble, France; Department of Molecular Pharmacochemistry, CNRS-University of Grenoble-Alpes and return to the CERMAV as an emeritus director of research.
His research interests span structural and conformational analysis of oligosaccharides, polysaccharides, glycoconjugates, protein-carbohydrate interactions in solution, and solid-state glyco-bioinformatics. This includes interests in computational chemistry and molecular modelling, crystallography, N.M.R. spectroscopy, and the structure-function and structure-properties relationship. He is the author of about 350 research publications, subject to many citations and references. He has strong experience in the evaluations of Research Infrastructures and an interest in startup companies, as well as the economy of glycoscience and E-learning, for which he founded and keep on managing the glycopedia glycopedia blog (glycopedia.eu). He also edited and wrote several books in particular: Chitin and Chitosans in the Bioeconomy, in 2021, The Biomass in the Bioeconomy, in 2022, Algae in the Bioeconomy, 2024 and Plastics in the Oceans, 2024.
